This is sad news, but not surprising. The Associated Press is reporting that test results received by a law enforcement official (who wasn't authorized to speak to press and therefore requested to remain anonymous) confirm what the public already suspected—legendary performer Prince died at the age of 57 from an opioid overdose.

Farewell, sweet Prince.

Prince had been treated for a drug overdose six days before he died, when his private plane was forced to make an emergency landing so EMTs could administer a "save shot." He was scheduled to meet with an addiction specialist the day following his April 21 death.

The singer leaves behind a sister, a slew of half-siblings, a vault full of unreleased music, and heartbroken fans around the globe.
