Sorry, but according to Miss Manners, Joseph Hayes was in the right. He arrived fashionably late, as is expected by anyone who adheres to modern custom. We can assume he RSVP'd so the hostess must have known to plan for his kids' attendance. Anyone who's ever thrown a party knows that if the cake runs out before all the expected guests have a piece, it's the host's duty to find some more cake or risk getting capped. Joseph Hayes wasn't pointing his gun at that hostess, he was pointing it at the downfall of traditional party etiquette in America. (Via Buzzfeed, AOL Weird News)
