The internet is losing its mind over yet another viral optical illusion. And like so many before, this one is mind-numbingly stupid, but strangely compelling. When you see it, you'll scoff at first. Then you'll be drawn in. Then you won't be able to look away. By tomorrow, you will BE the ham. Yes, it's about ham.

The image in question was uploaded to Reddit by user MelvinDickpictweet. In only four days, it's received more than 40,000 upvotes, so there must be something to it. The uploader titled his masterpiece, "This sliced ham looks like it's out of focus." And so it does.

Huh? Wait, what? Ohhhhh…

Let's get this out of the way: it does look out of focus. Don't try to pretend it doesn't. But unlike other viral optical illusions, this one is easy to understand. The slices are thin enough to be translucent, and they have almost identical marbling patterns. The fact that they're layered slightly off-center creates an effect similar to what you see when you cross your eyes.

Still skeptical? Then you have trust issues, dude. But don't worry. The uploader even made a video to demonstrate what's going on.

That should be enough evidence for anybody. And it gives some more much-needed information about this ham: it's old and gross. If you ate that stuff, your eyes would cross for real.
