After his friend Beth Beard lost 150 pounds, Toronto-based photographer Blake Morrow captured a series of pop culture-inspired portraits titled "The Beth Project." The photos, which were shot two years apart, each feature old Beth whimsically interacting with new Beth.
In an email interview, Morrow told Someecards: "It was important to me to not suggest that 'Before' Beth was negative while 'After' Beth was perfect, so we used humor to convey a tongue-in-cheek element in many of the portraits."
Two weeks before Beard underwent gastric bypass surgery in spring 2012, Morrow snapped photos of Beard for the "before" bit of the series. He shot a total of twelve photos that show Beard wearing the costumes of various characters. After Beard’s stunning weight change two years later, the pair scheduled a second shoot for the “after” photos. After the shoot, Morrow combined the before and after images of Beth into a single photo.
