This amazing photo comes from redditor schmick, and shows the Villarrica volcano in Chile in its first major eruption since 1984. The event started this morning at 3 AM, and has produced some pretty spectacular video. Here's what the beginning of the eruption looked like, from what I assume is a security camera they installed in case someone tries to steal the volcano:

And here it is on local Chilean TV, with inappropriately inspirational music:

That tune really makes you think it's all going to be OK. Chilean authorities have evacuated more than 3,500 people from the area already, and there's no telling when it will be safe again. Maybe they could learn more if they sent in some kamikaze drones. It would be cool, anyway. Get on it, Chile!
