I'm not sure I can witness the tragedy of a Home Run Derby without steroids

Tonight is Major League Baseball's Home Run Derby — an event almost as silly as having tomorrow night's All-Star game determine home-field advantage in the World Series. Apparently, this event can adversely affect participants' swings in the second half of their season. Maybe that's why some of tonight's sluggers include tied-for-15th place in home runs New York Yankee Nick Swisher and a guy from the Milwaukee Brewers. Regardless, tonight's event is sure to establish absolutely nothing about which player is the best home-run hitter. Not only that, but the winner gets to forever be mentioned in the same breath as past steroid-tainted superstars Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa.
