Kumbali is a cheetah cub who was paired with a puppy named Kago at the Metro Richmond Zoo. Kumbali had to be hand-raised by the zoo staff because his mother could not produce enough milk for all her cubs. Once he gained strength, he needed some companionship. Enter Kago, a lab mix who acts just as you'd expect a lab puppy would when meeting anything: with pure joy and curiosity. The cheetah cub also reacts as you'd expect a cat would: by repeatedly smacking the dog in the face. There's nothing quite like an unlikely animal friendship to break hearts and the Internet.

When Kumbali was ready to move to an outdoor space, Kago joined him. They are now inseparable, and enjoy chasing each other at very high cheetah speeds, followed by wrestling and snuggling. They're not quite as badass as this bear and wolf, and not as unlikely as this real-life Bambi and Thumper. But they are perfect for each other.
