Depending on how you feel about possums, what you are about to see will either be a wonderful dream or a horrible nightmare. When Brazilian animal trainer Stephanie Maldonado's uncle's dog killed a mother possum, Maldonado came up with a solution for the litter of baby possums left behind: raising them with the help of her dog, Pretinha.
Since mid-January, Moldonado and Pretinha have been raising the marsupial babies together, and Moldonado has posted about their progress on her Facebook page. She took care of the early feedings, giving the babies milk by tiny bottle every two hours. Pretinha, meanwhile, has cared for the babies by cleaning them and letting them cuddle up for warmth. She even lets them ride on her back just like a momma possum would:
And here's a video of them out and about:
Of course, this is far from the first story of inter-species adoption. There's the cat that adopted ducklings, the monkey that adopted a puppy, and the millions of humans who have adopted everything from dogs to snakes.
