After taking a hiatus from his movie star lifestyle, Brad Pitt was back on the red carpet last night, making his first public appearance since his highly-publicized separation from Angelina Jolie. On Wednesday night, the actor attended a fan event for his new movie Allied, answering questions, signing autographs, and generally trying to look like a guy who isn't embroiled in an extreme bitter, public custody battle.
Earlier on Wednesday, Pitt was officially cleared of child abuse charges by the Los Angeles Country Department of Children and Family Services. The investigation had been started after Jolie accused him of striking their son Maddox in an alcohol-related incident on a private jet in September. After extensive interviews with the family and witnesses, DCFS determined that the incident did not constitute child abuse, and rejected Jolie's claim that Pitt had a "pattern of misconduct."
At Wednesday's event, Pitt did not address his divorce specifically (no surprise there), but seemed happy to be with his fans again. The 52-year-old said, "It's really sweet, everyone has been really kind out here. It's really nice to have all the support."
With the DCFS decision, Pitt is sure to have more leverage in his custody battle with Jolie. But this thing is far from over.
