If you find yourself having the urge to throw your money away on something, but don't care about cards or sports or races, you're in luck! Now you can gamble on Taylor Swift's love life. Taobao (a subsidiary of Alibaba), China's biggest online marketplace, is reportedly selling insurance on Taylor Swift's new relationship with Tom Hiddleston (and supposedly Katy Perry/Orlando Bloom's, too), with the promise of double your money back if Hiddleswift breaks up. Other sellers on the site are straight up taking bets on whether or not Hiddleswift will last the year, with bets starting at one yuan (about $.15) each. Any winnings go straight into the bettor's bank account.
One seller told Xinhuanet there have been 543 transactions thus far. A seller named Ma Jia said that the most anyone has spent is 400 yuan, and that seller has now set a cap of 300 yuan.
Swift has had her fair share of high-profile romances, but that's not a judgment, just part of being one of the world's most famous pop singers. It seems slightly mean-spirited to speculate about celeb romances, but then again, if everyone's already talking about it, it simply follows that people are going to want to put their money where their gossipy mouths are.
