As news was breaking about the UCLA murder-suicide shooting on Wednesday, Debra Messing posted her thoughts on the violence alongside a dramatically edited selfie, which Perez Hilton snagged a screenshot of before Messing deleted it.

Messing's shirt is from the Under the Gun documentary that Katie Couric produced. Messing might not have gotten the memo the documentary has some "misleading" editing for which Couric apologized, Variety reported.

Not everyone took well to Messing's tweet.

To better understand the irony Messing is referring to, it might be helpful to know that June 2 is National Gun Violence Awareness Day, for which Messing was already planning to take a selfie.

She wanted to make it clear that her original tweet wasn't about any celebrity.
