Comedian Ricky Gervais made his return to the Golden Globes tonight, and as promised, he made some very beautiful people cringe. Sipping beer at the podium, Gervais announced he was going to do the monologue and then promply go into hiding. “Not even Sean Penn will find me,” he said. (Full video at bottom.)

Gervais went for some easy (and moreover old) jokes about Caitlyn Jenner and some quips about Jeffrey Tambor’s balls and Jennifer Lawrence’s fight for equal pay. “Shut up, I don’t care,” Gervais told the audience when there were gasps.

The best responses Gervais received inside the auditorium were about The Martian being nominated for best comedy film. Saying, "The Martian was a lot funnier than Pixels, but then again so was Schindler's List." Later he hilariously introduced Damon, as "The only person Ben Affleck has been faithful to."

Reactions to his jokes on Twitter were mixed, whatever your opinion is, you still have to admit it's more entertaining than The People's Choice Awards.
