Michael Shannon is currently out promoting Nocturnal Animals, a revenge film in which he co-stars with Jake Gyllenhaall, so it's understandable that he'd have payback on the brain. But his latest interview with Metro News suggests he's not thinking about much else, either—he's literally telling old Trump voters to die.
"We’re going to need a lot of vengeance movies in the next four years," he said, addressing the "catharsis" of such blood-soaked stories. "I have two young children. Basically [Trump] is probably going to destroy the earth and civilization as we know it. It’s kind of terrifying." He then doubted the efficacy of protests, saying "Maybe you need a civil war or something."
It just gets better from there: "I don’t want to live in a country where people voted for Trump. I want to live in some other fucking country. But I don’t want to run away. So we’re just going to have to bust this thing up," he said. "There’s a lot of old people who need to realize they’ve had a nice life, and it’s time for them to move on. Because they’re the ones who go out and vote for these assholes. If you look at the young people, between 18 and 25, if it was up to them Hillary would have been president. No offense to the seniors out there. My mom’s a senior citizen. But if you’re voting for Trump, it’s time for the urn."
His advice for people whose parents went for Trump? It's pretty simple, really: "Fuck 'em. You’re an orphan now. Don’t go home. Don’t go home for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Don’t talk to them at all. Silence speaks volumes."
Especially when you look as intense as Michael Shannon.
