Supermodel Miranda Kerr and actor Orlando Bloom were married for three years before splitting in 2013, and now Kerr is opening up to Elle Canada about how she dealt with her depression during their difficult divorce.
Kerr revealed that although she is normally positive and bubbly, the split left her in a "really bad depression." She told the magazine, "I never understood the depth of that feeling or the reality of that because I was naturally a very happy person."
Eventually, Kerr learned that the key to getting over the breakup was to recognize that "every thought you have affects your reality and only you have control of your mind." She began a regimented routine of twice-daily meditation, as well as applying a soothing oil (one from her own all-natural skincare line, Kora Organics), eating healthy and practicing yoga. Most importantly, she said she learned to be grateful for the things she had, even when times are tough. "When I wake up and when I go to bed, I have that attitude of gratitude and I say, "Thank you for this beautiful day, for this roof over my head, for the fact that I have my health and my son has his health, and thank you for our family.'"
Both Kerr and Bloom have moved on and found love again— Bloom is dating singer Katy Perry and Kerr is newly engaged to Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel. The two exes also share custody of their son, Flynn, who is five.
