On Saturday, stars from around the world met in Hamburg to attend Germany's prestigious Golden Camera Awards. One star who didn't make it was Ryan Gosling—but the producers didn't know that. German comedians Joachim ‘Joko’ Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf had duped them into thinking the beloved hunk would attend to accept his award for La La Land, but in reality they had replaced him with a cheap Gosling look-alike. It was only when he took the stage that everyone realized what had happened.
As you can see, the reaction from the crowd, including international stars like Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell, was mixed. (The impersonator's obnoxious swagger didn't help.) But although Goslingheads might consider the prank to be in poor taste, there's no arguing that it's an impressive achievement in the field of trolling.
Apparently, Winterscheidt and Heufer-Umlauf (stars of the popular German prank show Joko vs. Klaas —The Battle Around the World) had created a fake talent agency and used it to convince a producer that Gosling would attend. But there was a catch—they said Gosling suffers from stage fright, and thus would not attend the red carpet or sit in the audience. The producer, who evidently knows nothing about Ryan Gosling, agreed.
Winterscheidt and Heufer-Umlauf created a behind-the-scenes video explaining how they pulled it off.
And this one explains what happened afterward.
Those guys are lucky they escaped with their lives. Telling people they're going to see Ryan Gosling and then letting them down is a good way to get yourself torn apart by a murderous horny mob.
