John Boyega, who plays Finn in The Force Awakens, wasted no time in embracing all the old and new Star Wars fans turning out for opening weekend, dropping in on theaters in Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York City. As many people were there dressed as Jedi (or dressed as him), however, his outfit had many wondering if Boyega was momentarily confused about which George Lucas franchise he was starring in.
Jokes about his hat aside, even in a city where people love to say "only in New York," this was some pretty special fan service. Boyega visited cinemas in Union Square, at 34th Street near Penn Station, and Lincoln Square further uptown in Manhattan before heading over to Brooklyn.
There, he visited the big Court Street cinema in downtown Brooklyn and made a pilgrimage to the hipster mecca at Williamsburg cinemas.
Even though the “big” news of the week was The Force Awakens breaking box-office records, fans will probably remember moments like these a lot longer than whatever the final number is on the cash haul.
Here's hoping he decides to do the same thing for all the nerds who go to see it a second time next weekend. (Editor's note: me, I'm talking about me.)
