Through the Looking Glass, the follow-up to Tim Burton's 2010 Alice In Wonderland, is being released on May 27. To promote it, Johnny Depp dressed up as the Mad Hatter (the character he plays in both movies) and freaked out a whole bunch of people at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. Depp-as-Hatter was broadcast live onto a digitized billboard at the park entrance, from a nearby studio. The billboard looked like a framed picture of him, or a poster of the movie, until he started waving and interacting with the park visitors, when it became clear that he could actually see them.
This has to be one of the creepiest things imaginable. It's so much more "terrifying" than whimsical. Johnny Depp is a dreamboat for sure, but the Mad Hatter is a nightmare. But people were psyched ("I would, like, die right now if it was Johnny Depp") and kids seemed into it, especially when he sneezed and bubbles came out of the top of the billboard (um, okay. Weird).
Anyway, it's nice to see Johnny Depp in a video where he's not apologizing for something.
