Though it goes back about a decade, the beef between rappers Remy Ma and Nicki Minaj has only just reached a fever pitch with the former's "Shether," a savage 7-minute diss track that builds on the beat from Nas' "Ether," itself a diss track response to Jay Z. Apart from its bracing lyrics, the cover art depicts a dismembered, pink-haired Barbie doll presumably meant to be Nicki.

Remy raps about Nicki's alleged infidelities, plastic surgeries, and reliance on ghostwriters, as well as a lyric she felt Nicki poached from her: “You stole that line about bitches being your sons / How you take my ’09 jail tweet and run / Talkin’ ‘bout bringing knives to a fight with guns / When the only shot you ever took was in your buns,” she says in mocking Nicki's trash talk.

The song is considered a response to Nicki's track with Gucci Mane, "Make Love," which needled Remy over a dearth of record sales. Nicki doubled down on that tactic following the release of "Shether," providing Instagram with some bleak receipts on Remy's recent joint effort with Fat Joe, Plato O Plomo.

Although she later deleted that post, she did also flaunt Beyoncé's endorsement of her as the "queen of rap." Which, yeah, probably counts for something.

And as far as Remy's record sales go, well—"Shether" is certainly helping.

Yes, the only way out for Nicki now is to clap back with more bars. Otherwise, like her beat-up beau Meek Mill, she may quickly find herself in an 0-2 hole.

But don't count Nicki out yet. Something tells us she's already plotting revenge.
