Miley Cyrus also debuted her heart-wrenching song 'Slide Away' live, a meditation on her dissolved marriage to Liam Hemsworth. Lizzo was 'Good As Hell' despite losing Best New Artist to Billie Eilish. Normani did gymnastics. The Jonas Brothers delivered a VMAs performance for the first time in 11 years, rocking out remotely at Asbury Park's The Stone Pony - fitting for Jersey natives. Though comedian Sebastian Maniscalco's hosting abilities didn't impress viewers, the ceremony proceeded smoothly and did what it does best: gathering pop's biggest names in one room to see what happens.
