Andy Samberg just killed it with his Emmys opening. Last year and the year before we got funny but fairly uneventful monologues (minus the brief but amazing Jane Lynch queer-off) from Seth Meyers and Neil Patrick Harris. This year we got a combo of sketch comedy, singing, and a monologue that didn't shy away from making jokes about Hollywood's lack of diversity or Most Hated Celebrity Of Our Moment Bill Cosby.

The show opened with Samberg getting shamed for all the TV shows he hasn't watched by his buds, including Fresh Off The Boat's Randall Park, Community's Yvette Nicole Brown, and Veep's Timothy Simmons. That's when he broke into song, signaling we were in for something more exciting than the usual safe NBC-is-doing-terribly jokes.
