If you watched Game of Thrones on Sunday, your heart was probably going pitter-pat right around this moment when Tormund "Wildling" Giantsbane made all the eyes at Brienne "Stark Protector" of Tarth:
Obviously, everyone was shipping the hell out of these two immediately. And now, episode director Dan Sackheim has confirmed that yup, that totally was meant to be an eye-f*cking. Sackheim told TV Guide:
I wasn't even sure that when I delivered the episode it was really clear. It was like a fun little bit, but I wasn't sure it was really clear that he had these amorous feelings for Brienne. I'm always amazed what fans pick up.
Sackheim also noted, however, "I think it was fairly one-sided." Which, duh, because even though we saw Tormund gnawing on a bone while staring at Brienne, we didn't also see her gnawing on a bone while staring into his eyes (presumably the only way to show love in The North). But, don't despair that you'll never see Tormund and Brienne become the ultimate power couple, because Sackheim continued, "There's nothing like a challenge. Men love a challenge."
Tormund might already have enough of challenge with the whole "saving his band of nomads from some ancient zombie magics" thing penciled into his calendar. Hopefully he's a multi-tasker, and Brimund will become a thing.
