If I was writing an undergraduate paper on this season of Game of Thrones, I might say that this year is all about resurrection—for example, the literal returns from death of Jon Snow and Benjen Stark, the resurrection imagery of Daenerys emerging from fire unharmed, and the way Cersei, Arya, and Sansa are reclaiming their sense of identity after trauma. And tonight's episode, "The Broken Man," brought another character, long assumed dead, back into the action. But if the White Walkers have taught us anything, it's that resurrection isn't always a good thing. Sometimes it still leaves you broken. Warning: as always, spoilers for the most recent episode ahead.
