Many of us know that that all great pranks have the same cost: they're priceless. But that didn't stop intrepid redditor jmorely14 from going through every prank Jim played on Dwight in The Office and tallying up the cost. Being the kind-hearted soul that he is, jmorely14 also shared his spreadsheet of calculations with the world, presumably so that other researchers can take his findings and build upon his work to, I dunno, create a cancer drug or something. Don't ask me how science works.
According to jmorely14's numbers, the most expensive Office prank was the Morse Code prank, which came in at a cool $3,120: nanny fees for when Jim and Pam were taking the Morse Code class. He also estimates that Jim's overall prank cost over the life of the show was $5,590.95, or an average of $62.82 per prank. That is, however, assuming that Jim was able to get several things for free, including a tear-away suit that Jim notes he actually custom-ordered. Thus, after going through the numbers, BuzzFeed claims that the total prank cost is more likely in the $7,000 to $10,000 range over nine years.
If you consider how much joy pranking Dwight brings Jim, though, think of it this way: that's less than the annual cost of owning a dog, and pranks don't shed all over your couch (usually).
