A few weeks ago, it was announced that Megyn Kelly would be joining NBC's Today show, and that as a result Al Roker and Tamron Hall would lose their hour-long segment. Around the same time, Hall announced that she would be leaving NBC for new opportunities. It was speculated that Hall's choice to leave was related to Kelly coming in and taking an hour slot that was helmed by the two most prominent black hosts at NBC. Today, People reported on some of the alleged reasons that Hall actually left the show, according to sources "close to Hall."

"Just a few days before all of this happened, she received an email [from an exec] congratulating the team for being number one," one source told People. Apparently, Roker and Hall had been consistently outpacing ABC's Live With Kelly for several weeks, and Hall had only joined Roker in October, after the abrupt and humiliating departure of Billy Bush. The source went on. "Then all of a sudden, it was like it vanished: Megyn Kelly is coming on board and who’s going to have to move? Tamron. That’s who."

BUT WAIT BECAUSE THERE ARE MORE SOURCES. And they say different things, including the fact that Hall always knew her hosting of the 9a.m. slot with Roker was temporary and there was no expectation of that being a longer contract. "The idea that she could have been at all surprised rings totally false. In the brief period of time in which she has been part of the 9 a.m. hour ensemble, the ratings have only shrunk." So, I'm confused: did the ratings increase and surpass ABC, or did they shrink? Or maybe they shrunk but still managed to surpass ABC? Either way, look out for this source because he or she is clearly a ruthless backstabber and you do not want him or her leaking your goss.

So, why did Hall leave? Let's let a third source weigh in. "She basically said thank you, but no thank you," said a real-life named source, the anchor’s good friend, TV writer-producer Mara Brock Akil. "Tamron’s a woman of integrity and she’s writing her own story." Hard to know who to trust for info on Tamron Hall, but here's what we do know about the broadcast journalist: she was the first black woman to ever host the Today show, and that makes her a badass. As Hall told People, "I know it’s rare to have a single black woman on morning TV. I love my job and the relationship I have with the viewers." She's gonna crush it. I hope she gets drunk and does karaoke at her going away party.
