Amazon is taking over the world, it seems, and this newest offering will make your meal planning just that much easier.
Amazon is joining the world of meal delivery (think Blue Apron, Plated, Hello Fresh, for example), offering their own line of branded meals. Their slogan? "We do the prep. You be the chef."
The Amazon Meal Kits landed on their website, but the company later pulled the listing, without any indication of when customers can expect them to return.
USA Today reports that new meal kits from Amazon are between $16 and $20 a piece. The first option they offered was Steak au Poivre with Parmesan Fries & Snap Peas, a kit designed with portions for two, an easy-to-follow recipe, and the promise "from box to table in about 30 minutes."
Geekwire first reported that 17 different meal kits were listed on the site at one time, with a report from Josh Chadd, a Seattle resident who was selected for a trial run of the product.
He prepared the Steak au Poivre and told Geekwire: "The steak was an 8-oz. serving packaged by Corfini and was at least of USDA choice quality. It was not an odd or awkward cut which is often the case with other services. The peas were very fresh with no blotches and tasted very sweet. The onion came pre-diced. It also came with fresh green peppercorns which I’ve never seen in another service even with a similarly named recipe. Overall the finished meal was a 9 out of 10 for any meal I’ve made at home even with my own ingredients."
The Amazon Meal Kits have been available at a brick and mortar test store in Seattle for about six months. Temi and Mari, bloggers at Table Manners Aside, posted a review of the kits in December after purchasing from the test store and were happy with the kit.
