If you're deciding whether to drop by Casa Mexicana in Sherwood, Arkansas, you may want to skip the Yelp reviews and listen to what this insulted customer has to say. After finishing her meal, one loyal customer claims that one of the staff insulted her weight on a receipt, assuming she wouldn't understand. The cruel insult on the receipt came as a total shock for Rebecca Rummerfield, who eats at the Mexican restaurant three times a week with her boyfriend.
"I noticed on the line where it said customer for our tab, it said, 'X Gordo,' which means extra fat in Spanish," Rummerfield said. "It really hurt my feelings because I have a thyroid disease and I used to be extremely skinny. But my weight is out of my control right now. I take medication for it."
Here's an up-close look at the receipt:
Rummerfield told Arkansas Matters that she knows each of the servers by name and “there was no reason to have anything like that on the receipt." After having seen the receipt, Rummerfield quickly spoke to the manager of the restaurant. "He said it was someone else's tab," she said.
However, when she confronted the bartender he told her something completely different:
I went back to the bar and said, 'Well, why did we pay someone else's tab? Can we get our correct tab?,' And that's when the bartender proceeded to tell me that he did write that, and he did mean it in a derogatory fashion.
At least he cleared up any ambiguity around his insult. Rummerfield said that she will never go back to Casa Mexicana after the horrible incident. The manager apologized to her for the bartender's atrocious slander, and, yup, the bartender's arse was fired.
