How long should you dunk an Oreo cookie? It’s definitely a personal preference, depending on how crisp or soaked you like your cookie, but researchers at Utah State University's splash lab have done some experimenting so you can be well informed.

How do #Oreo cookies walk the plank, you ask? Swimmingly, if there are no sharks in the milk.

The research took two weeks of testing, as Dr. Tadd Truscott told KSL.com: "We've always had, like, these crazy ideas, I guess you'd say. We were always saying, 'We should be always curious, asking as many questions as we can.'"

He further explained: "That question kept coming up, like, 'What is the best dunking time?' And everybody kind of argued about it."

They tested a variety of cookies and found that Oreos absorb 50 percent of fluids after just one second.

So, what’s the perfect dunk time? According to their findings, four seconds is what you should be shooting for, as it's the amount of time for an Oreo to reach its maximum absorption. Push that time too long and you’ll have over soaked your cookie.
