After a lifetime of rigorously shaving her armpits and legs to keep up with traditional beauty standards, fitness blogger Morgan Mikenas decided she'd had enough. In 2016, she stopped shaving her body hair entirely. One year later, she posted a YouTube video to tell others why that decision has made her happier and more confident than ever before.

In the video (which features an ethereal soundtrack to make you feel like you're swimming with the whales), Mikenas mentions how she started shaving in middle school, after some girls on the playground made fun of her for her hairy legs. She routinely removed all her body hair for years, until she realized in adulthood that she was spending a massive amount of time on this ritual.

As an experiment, she tried not shaving. At the time, she was working in child care. The kids noticed her legs, and started mocking her just like her classmates had decades before, saying she looked like a man. This unsettling experience convinced her to give up shaving for good—she had no interest in feeding into the same cycle of shame that had hurt her.

Despite that conviction, she insists in the video description that, "The purpose of this video is not to shame people who do shave, I just want to speak on how its helped me become more comfortable within myself, and maybe inspire others to do something that makes them feel confident."

Mikenas's video has blown up on YouTube, with over a million views. When you consider that and her 70,000 Instagram followers, it's clear that her message of body positivity is resonating with a lot of people. Not to mention the fact that she's a very qualified fitness blogger.

So maybe leave this woman alone about what she chooses to do with her own body. For that matter, extend that courtesy to all people.
