Laura Micetich is a 24-year-old teacher from Tennessee who wasn't exactly living the healthiest lifestyle a few years ago. "I'd struggled with my weight, with my body not letting me do the things I loved, with loving food, with the potential of health issues," Micetich wrote on her very inspiring Instagram account @theirongiantess.
"At 22 years old, my weight had become a serious health issue. Not only was I struggling with my thyroid, but I could see myself heading toward more health issues in the future."
Upon graduating from college, the six-foot-tall Micetich decided to get her shit together and started to plan for weight loss surgery. "I knew I'd need to be in a safe bmi range for the procedure and that I'd have to change my lifestyle drastically following the surgery."
In preparation, Micetich began to turn things around. “I started in my living room, getting halfway through YouTube videos and taking breathers constantly,” she told Us Weekly.
Despite her early struggles, Micetich soon realized she was a gym rat at heart and eating healthy wasn't the worst thing in the world. "I started by going to the gym (at first 3-4 times a week. Now 6-7 days a week), lifting weights, and eating a clean diet tailored to my body's needs," she wrote. "It only took a few weeks for me to realize that I didn't need to go under the knife."
In a year, Micetich had lost more than 100 pounds, but put on some dense muscle. “I spent the last year lifting heavy and managed to get my squat and deadlift to three plates," she told Us. That means Micetich is squatting and deadlifting 315 pounds.
"My body isn't perfect," wrote Micetich. "I have fat, stretch marks, loose skin in places, insecurities. This journey will hopefully continue for the rest of my life."
Hopefully her positive Instagram messages will also continue. They almost make you want to get up and go to the gym.
