Going home for the holidays always comes with its share of discomforts, no matter how well you and your family get along. But after an election as bitter and revolting as we got in the year of our lord 2016—with a result that has left some catatonically depressed as others gloat and commit a round of victory hate crimes—the talk over Thanksgiving dinner is bound to be especially fraught.

So, is it a worthwhile course of action to ruin a perfectly good turkey feast by touting your political convictions, and refusing to let racist, sexist, or homophobic relatives off the hook for theirs?
