It seems that no matter what age you are, people will give you advice about how to succeed — and a lot of the time, their counsel boils down to a few clichés, none of which are all that helpful.

A recent Reddit thread asked people to name the life advice they've gotten that was actually misleading. The results might prove that no one really knows what they're doing.

1. Doing nothing might feel right in the moment, but it's not always the best plan.

If it’s meant to be, it’ll happen. (Sometimes you gotta go out there and make sure it happens) - hellogoodbye78520

2. Work is work.

Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life.

HA! - SoMuchEdgeImOnaCliff

3. Having money is pretty sweet.

Money can’t buy happiness.

While true, it is misleading, because money can greatly contribute to providing security and things that tend to make people happy. - mgmom421020

4. People mean well when they say this, but it might be damaging.

'Don't cry'

Let people express their feelings and cry if that's what they need - yellow_fr0g
