Manager of retro diner asks if it's wrong not to let non-binary worker wear women's uniform.

It's hard to imagine that anyone is dying to relive the 1930s, when the Great Depression was in full swing, fascists were rising to power all over Europe, and modern medicine was a brand new thing.

But apparently, at one small-town diner, that's exactly what people do for fun — and strict sartorial gender roles are an integral part of the fantasy.

A manager of a restaurant devoted to 1930s cosplay has taken to Reddit to ask for advice after a non-binary employee asked to wear the uniform that's normally reserved for women. The employee just wants to wear what they want, but the restaurant's owner refuses to let it happen because he apparently has never seen "Cabaret." The manager's caught in the middle.

The uniforms, the manager specifies, are a "big draw":

I'm the manager of a small diner; we're 30s themed and one of the big draws to us, other than the food and decor, is our uniforms. They're a required part of the job and the owner's reasoning is it feels like walking into a 1930's diner because everything fits the period.
