11 people on the moment they realized hard work actually doesn't pay off.

People (as in parents, teachers and bosses) love to say hard work pays off. But does it?? Does it really?

A recent Reddit thread asked, "When did you realize that hard work does not always pay off?" The answers prove that 1. hard work does not always, in fact, pay off, and 2. we're all in this crappy situation together.

1. Hey, you're good at work — here's more work.

When they reward you for getting your work done well by giving you everyone else’s work to do.

2. Take! Days! Off!

I never ever called off. (And yes, I understand now why that is not a good thing, but when I was young I thought you went to work unless you were on your deathbed.)

At a staff meeting, boss was reading everyone the riot act for calling off too much and his second in charge said "Well, except for *Verticalparachute*, they've never missed a day."
