Is it ethical to troll somebody who is trying to cheat?
An "Am I The A**hole?" post deals with the intersection of academic integrity and pranks.
A student was writing a poorly-supervised midterm exam saw a fellow student trying to cheat off of them. They explained that in the large hall, the proctors "weren't strict or sharp," which was how exam-takers managed to have whispered conversations.
The Original Poster tried getting the cheater of their back, but nevertheless, she persisted:
I was having my mid-term grammar exam in my second year of college a few days ago. There was this girl I didn't even know, who was sitting in front of me, and was pestering me about some questions, while I was revising. She most probably is with me in class, and she probably knows I'm good at English.
I didn't answer the first time she asked, but she kept asking, even though I told her no. I ended up giving in, so she could stop, and so I could focus on revising, but she kept asking for more. I gave her right answers at first, until she started going through the entire exam from beginning to end with me.
