Grand romantic gestures can seem as mythical as Fairy Godmothers and Magic Carpets, but they do, in fact, happen in real life. Gestures don't necessarily need to be "grand" to be romantic, or intricate to be romantic. The small things often pack the biggest punch.
A thread on Ask Women had people making strangers swoon by asking, "Hopeless romantics or not, what's a romantic thing/s that's actually happened to you in real life?"
It turns out that being a romantic isn't necessarily hopeless.
When I went on my first vacation with my husband (then boyfriend) I remember saying how I hope the hotel leaves candy on the pillow like in the movies. You have to understand I grew up incredibly poor. Anyway, we go on vacation and there is chocolate on my pillow every night. I found out later it was my husband putting the candy there. It was such a small gesture but made me feel so loved.-valerieswrld
