In our era of social media oversharing, it feels as if no topic is off-limits, but one of the darkest subjects remains taboo. While parenting is difficult no matter the circumstances, there are many parents who regret being assigned the task. Whether their children were accidents, or they were simply unprepared for the overwhelming responsibility, parents are suffering with feelings of resentment and shame.

A Reddit thread gave them the opportunity to share their stories, asking, "What is it like to have children you don’t want?" Many of these struggling parents used throwaway accounts so they could not be easily identified if they have tech-savvy kids. It is illuminating, thought-provoking, and devastating for both the parent and child alike.

It set the tone for the rest of my life, one of those hindsight is 20/20 things. I honestly believe if I'd never had a kid, particularly as young and alone as I was in a very socially backwards area, I'd have made a lot more of myself. I know that could be taken as self-rationalization for lack of trying and failures. But I also know how I felt, how I have never bonded with my kid, and how both our lives could have been a lot better had I either waited to have her, or let another couple adopt her like I wanted but was forced out of the choice.-momisahamster
