As a kid, I wasn't scared of anything, unless you count aliens, ghosts, unexplained phenomena, witches, hell...okay, a LOT of things scared me. I was perpetually terrified thanks to a diet of R.L. Stine books, The Exorcist, and shows about extraterrestrial life. A night light was mandatory, as lying alone in the dark made sleep impossible. What if I saw a ghost? What if aliens abducted me? What if there IS a monster under my bed?
Yesterday PhoenixScribe took to Reddit and asked, "What’s the scariest thing that happened to you when in someone else’s house?" It reminded me of all the times I struggled through sleepovers, convinced that my unfamiliar surroundings would be the perfect setting for a murder, kidnapping, or haunting. People responded in droves and I selected some highlights for your perusal. Just remember: you're a guest, so if you MUST scream, kindly muffle the sound.
