Earlier this month, Ellen and Walmart donated $25,000 to Summit Academy Charter School in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The check was received by its founder, Natasha Campbell, and principal Cheryl Lundy Swift (who recently won "Educator of the Year"). In Red Hook, only 4% of adults hold a college degree, and in 2016, 93% of the school's graduating students went off to college.
Ellen invited Campbell and Swift back to her show on Thursday, and this time the entire 2017 senior class in tow. That is when Ellen surprised the students with her single biggest gift ever.
Warning: you're going to want to have tissues handy for this one.
Each student received a 4-year scholarship to any New York State school, totaling at about $1.6 million dollars. And the student's reactions said it all.
Now that is something to cry, jump and scream inaudibly about.
