What is an exam? What is a question? And what...what is a microphone? That particular question on a sound recording test at Sheridan College in Canada has people all over the internet questioning what is true or false.

A film student at Sheridan posted a picture of the question on Imgur and Reddit:

Imgur users offered all sorts of theories on what the professor was looking for:

The professor, David Gray of the film studies department, told The Toronto Star the method to his madness: “Trying to break them out of the high school mentality of regurgitation, I wanted to get them to think more openly, so I started putting these funny questions on their quizzes and exams for bonus marks,” he said ("marks" is Canadian for "grades.")

“There is no wrong answer, it’s just more about pushing yourself and thinking outside of the box," he said.

With that approach to test-writing, he must be quite the auteur filmmaker, too.
