I'm not a big fan of fraternities, and stuff like this is why: the Cornell University chapter of fraternity Zeta Beta Tau was placed on probation for two years after an investigation allegedly revealed that frat brothers were making new pledges engage in a cruel fat shaming sex competition, The Ithica Voice reported on Monday.
The contest required that pledges sleep with as many women as possible. In the case of a tie, the winner would be decided by who'd slept with the heaviest woman, hence the disgusting name of the contest: the "Pig Roast." The women, of course, knew nothing about the contest.
Ryan Lombardi, vice president for student and campus life, gave a statement saying, in part:
The behavior that Zeta Beta Tau (ZBT) fraternity was recently found responsible for is abhorrent to me and antithetical to our values as a community. Behavior that degrades and dehumanizes women contributes to a climate and culture of tolerance for sexual violence.
