The thing about the internet is, despite its many flaws, it's a fairly safe place to spill things about ourselves that we may be too scared to admit to the people we know IRL. There's something comforting about spilling secrets to a bunch of people you'll probably never have to look at face-to-face, especially when you're protected by the anonymity of a username. This is why people often use Reddit as a place to unload secrets and other embarrassing truths that they wouldn't want their friends and family members to know.
