Lady Gaga took to her Instagram on Friday, June 16 to promote her Cups of Kindness 'refreshers' at Starbucks. She has teamed up with the company and made four new drinks, which all benefit the Born This Way Foundation.
The new refreshers include a matcha green tea lemonade, a violet drink, a pink drink, and an ombre pink drink. The Cups of Kindness refreshers is a part of a fundraiser for Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' foundation. For every refresher bought June 13 through June 19, Starbucks will donate 25 cents to the foundation. Starbucks has also stated that they will be making a minimum donation of $250,000.
According to the Born This WayFoundationn website, they have declared 2017 their year of kindness because they believe kindness is foundational to everything we do. The website states, "How we treat one another impacts how we feel about ourselves, how we feel about each other, and how healthy our communities are. That’s why we believe inspiring people to be kind is the key to building a more vibrant and productive world. We understand this is no easy task and we can’t do it alone. That’s why we’re collaborating with a diverse group of partners and young people themselves to give youth the resources and opportunities needed to build kinder communities."
The Foundations website includes a page titled "Spreading Kindness One Cup at a Time." There they explain that "The Starbucks partnership matters because the words that you see every day matter – the ones on signs as you cross the street, on menus as you order your coffee, and on Saturday morning adventures that you have with your kids. If there is one word I want to see more of in this world, it’s kindness and I’m glad that more than 12,000 stores across the country (and Canada!) have kindness on the menu this week and brought to life by the incredible talent of their baristas."
Lady Gaga even became a barista for a day and worked at a Starbucks, serving her signature refreshers. She even wore the green apron and her own name tag. Following her barista training, she took to Instagram to promote her cause, writing, "This week @starbucks pick up a Cup of Kindness "Refreshers" donate .25 cents to the @btwfoundation"
Starbucks has been promoting the cause, as well as their four new drinks, on their own Instagram. They have a picture for each new drink with captions promoting kindness. They say things like, "Sprinkle kindness everywhere, bravery through kindness, and Kindness is always beautiful."
Their message of kindness is so simple, and yet so strong. It's such a great reminder to be a genuinely nice person. The little acts of kindness can make a big difference, but Lady Gaga and her fearless team are trying to make a huge difference, and it's working. One cup of kindness at a time.
