The threat of detention looms large over every high schooler's head, because it's not as fun as The Breakfast Club makes it seem. While some kids act out for a variety of reasons, most students try to do what they're told and graduate in peace, however, arbitrary rules and power-tripping teachers can make that task difficult.
A Reddit thread asked the internet, "What is the dumbest way you got in trouble at school?" These are the dumbest of the dumb. If only detention had an appeals process.
I said “Peace!” at the end of the Pledge of Allegiance in middle school (we took turns doing it over the intercom) and everyone acted like I had just slapped the school nurse across the face.
My principal was a Revolutionary War reenactment enthusiast and suffice to say he did not find it amusing. My mother, on the other hand, still laughs about getting that phone call to this day.-woahpossum
