A viral tweet showing a guy canceling a date because a woman suggested meeting at Starbucks spawned a debate about dealbreakers and first date locations.
Twitter user Colleen shared the conversation she had with a guy named Matt, who insists that people who go to Starbucks are on a different 'wavelength' than him.
Colleen called Matt's behavior 'insane,' and he's not the only 'insane' one. Some men defended his anti-Starbucks insistence.
Women in the comments explained to the men that just because a woman suggests Starbucks, it doesn't mean that she loves the chain or even thinks that the coffee is drinkable—it means that she wants to meet a stranger from the internet in a popular, well-lit place, surrounded by witnesses.
Women are criticized for suggesting a location with 'high standards,' and criticized for suggesting somewhere casual. It's 'damned if you do, damned if you don't.'
It’s funny because women can never win with these guys. If we want to out to a nice fancy restaurant we are gold diggers but if we want to just meet at Starbucks we are low class like what pic.twitter.com/nRzcfvcWoT

This Matt could have gone about his criticism differently, had he not prioritized his judgmental rant over going on a date.
James summed the essential conflict up nicely:
Congratulations, James, on being the only dude in the thread who gets it.
