When this woman is upset about her son, she asks Reddit:

'AITA for asking to go trick or treating with my son?'

I (28f) have a 6 yo son with my ex (28m), and we’ve been broken up for many years at this point. For the most part we did an ok job coparenting, but because of some recent abusive threats he made to me I served him papers and now every holiday and schedule has been legalized.

I’m amenable to moving the schedule around, I understand things happen and he also might want to do something on a day that’s considered mine or visa versa and we both have been ok about that so far.

Now, Halloween is the only non X-mas holiday that I really celebrate, and I go all out for it. To the point where it’s kinda ridiculous, but my son and stepson love it, so that’s all that matters to me.

My ex said that he wanted to have our son for Halloween (which legally is my holiday) and I said that’s fine, I would just like to go with them to spend time while he’s trick or treating.

After they’re done I’ll be more than happy to leave; I don’t care about spending time at their house, I just want to spend time with my son. I even specifically request it off every year to spend it with him.

He got extremely short about it on the phone and then refused. I honestly don’t see a problem with it, I didn’t even want to switch a holiday, I just want to spend part of the holiday with my son. AITA?

Let's find out.

NTA. Legally, it’s your holiday. You are willing to let him have most of the day with him anyway, but you would like to be a part of a portion of it. If he doesn’t like that then he can choose to stick to the legal schedule.

NTA. Actually lived through incredibly similar. Kids dad did Easter every year w/his family and we made an agreement above the ordered holiday schedule that he got every Easter and I got every Halloween. Worked perfectly. Maybe he has a holiday equally important to him?

Well looks like OP is not TA. What would YOU do in this situation?
