It is hard to be a parent, or an aunt, especially if your child or niece or nephew has special needs. When this mom is not sure if she should accommodate her nephew's allergy at her daughter's communion, she takes to the popular Reddit forum to ask:

'AITA for getting a white chocolate cake for my daughter's first communion when my special needs nephew is allergic to chocolate?'

My (9f) daughter is getting her first communion soon. Chocolate is her favorite, I tried to encourage her to get vanilla because her cousin (my nephew who is neurodivergent) is allergic to chocolate, she got very upset saying it's not fair that it's her party.

I began to agree with her and am ordering a white chocolate cake.

I plan to accommodate my nephew by getting him an individualized vanilla cake, but his mother (my SIL) is upset, saying he will feel excluded and not understand why he can't have the same cake as everyone else, and says we should get a vanilla cake because it's not his fault he's allergic. AITA?

Well, let's find out what Reddit had to say.

NTA Its HER job to make sure HER child understands, not yours.

NTA.My daughter had severe food allergies. All dairy, eggs and nuts. We found a cupcake mix and made her own cupcakes to take to all the birthday parties. We let her help decorate them with sprinkles so they felt special just for her. Just because our daughter had allergies did not mean the entire party had to act like they did too. Good grief.

Nta. This is her party and nephew going have to realize that everyone don't cater to his allergics and will have to come prepared 🤷🏿‍♀️

Well, there you have it. OP is NTA. But is the SIL? What do YOU think?
