On Friday, Ivanka Trump flew to Pyeongchang as a substitute for her father (in what official capacity we have no idea) and was treated like a celebrity at the Olympics. But at least one American athlete was not down with her getting praised just for showing up.
U.S. Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy tweeted a picture of the entire U.S. Team making their way to the closing ceremony. Along with the picture, he tweeted, "So proud of all these people! Everybody here has worked so hard to make it to the Olympics and have the opportunity to walk in the closing ceremony! Well…Everyone except Ivanka. Honestly, tf is she doing here??"
Ivanka told AP,
It’s been an amazing couple of days, and such an honor and privilege to be here with our allies in South Korea and celebrate all that we’ve accomplished as a culture, a society economically and, of course, in sport.
People had very differing opinions on whether the First Daughter should have been there. A lot of people were confused as to WHY she was there — she's not an elected official.
Others, however, took her side, and criticized Kenworthy.
You open a big ol' can o' worms when you go after the President's daughter.
It is a little strange that Ivanka keeps showing up places when she's not an elected official. Just what is it that she does again?
