We live in a capitalist society that tends to prioritize financial growth over authenticity, which means we are surrounded by scams. And I don't just mean fake phone calls about car insurance. Scams are built into our everyday lives in ways that we've been conditioned to think are "normal" uses of our money. And many of these socially accepted scams are targeted at women (not that I'm judging anyone who falls for them, as someone who spends over $100 a month on anti-aging moisturizers).
In a popular Reddit thread, someone asked women of Reddit: "What is something that's clearly a scam, but women have been conditioned to believe its normal?"
1.) From belindabellagiselle:
The markup on wedding stuff.
People should spend whatever they want on a wedding, but the fact that a venue is $1000 for a banquet and $2500 for a wedding is clearly a scam.
