There are certain social "rules" about what subjects we tackle with people we don't know that well. And these rules exist for a reason. Because there are certain dark secrets and disturbing bits of personal information that should only be shared with close friends and family. Oversharing with someone you've just met, or someone you don't know very well, can make casual encounters turn awkward and uncomfortable real quick. Take it from me, someone who frequently breaks social rules and overshares at parties, in the rare chance I get invited to one.
