Teacher responds to 'poor PR' about teaching by revealing why she went back after quitting.

In recent years, many teachers in the U.S. have chosen to leave their jobs in our underpaid and flawed public education system. And I can hardly blame them. Recently, one ex-kindergarten teacher's post about why she quit teaching went hugely viral. In it, she explained that her reason for quitting had a lot to do with her frustrations with the education system for prioritizing "technology training" over children's emotional and mental well-being.

But not every teacher is abandoning the profession. Fourth-grader teacher Tracey Pendley, who was recently named 2020 Georgia Teacher of the Year, recently shared a post on why she decided to return to teaching after quitting for a year to be a stay-at-home mom.

Pendley chose to share her reasons for returning to teaching in response to what she perceives as recent "poor PR" about the profession.

She writes:

There have been so many posts about why teachers leave the profession that have gone viral lately, that I wanted to share my reasons for returning to teaching. It’s important to uplift the power of the classroom and the impact that teachers have on students because that’s why we teach. I think the authors of these posts have valid concerns, and they’re not lying- teaching is hard, especially in schools that lack resources, are not well maintained, or have a challenging school culture. I get it.
